Passion drives us toward success. It’s the inner drive that propels specific topics,
hobbies and even work tasks with deep enthusiasm. It springs from innate talents
and powers you effortlessy and without stress.
We know that people who are passionate about their work achieve more and are
happier. In fact, some of the most successful leaders in business, politics and the
military have a passion for their field and cause. What’s more, we can learn how to
cultivate passion and find the path toward fulfillment in our own lives by focusing on
our passion zones.
A passion zone is a space where your interests and talents intersect. Whether it’s an
area where you feel energized, creative, inspired, or in love, this is where your
greatest interest and energy lie. This is where you want to spend most of your time.
Ideally, it’s the area where you want to build your skills and expertise, but more
importantly, where you will be most fulfilled.
You can recognize a passion zone by how it makes you feel in your body. It might be
tingles, chills or that feeling you get in a great yoga class when you just want to cry
on your mat because the energy is so intense and moving. Alternatively, you might
be drawn to the causes of poverty or the plight of the homeless. Your heart is pulled
by the need to help, and this could be a strong indicator that you’re passionate
about your area of interest.
Your passion can be fueled by a variety of sources, including the desire to
accomplish something that will benefit others, the need for recognition or reward, or
simply the enjoyment of the activity itself. It can also be influenced by the need to
overcome obstacles or challenges in the process. A common story is the underdog
boxer who rises from obscurity to become champion.
Passion can be hampered by negative influences such as fear, jealousy or envy of
others. It can also be stifled by inertia and procrastination. If you are surrounded by
people who discourage possibility thinking, it’s best to remove them from your life.
Wilbur and Orville Wright were told that flying like birds was impossible. Yet, they
persevered.
When you are ready to take action, keep your eye on the prize. The key is to make
every decision based on how it will affect your life one, five, 10 and 20 years from
now. If you have a clear vision of what you’re working toward, the passion will drive
you.
